From the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce:

The Illinois Chamber and the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce will award Illinois State Senator Michael Connelly and State Representative Grant Wehrli the Champion of Free Enterprise Award on September 26, 2018 at the NACC Legislative Forum at 11:30 A.M.

“While most Illinois lawmakers continue to provide lip service to the need for pro-growth reforms, these 47 lawmakers are committed to supporting and defending Illinois employers throughout the State.” said Todd Maisch, President and CEO of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.

In order to receive the award, a senator or representative must have received an average of 85 percent or better voting record over the previous two Illinois General Assemblies. Voting records are based on a legislator’s votes on measure the chamber deems important to the state’s business community.

“Local residents and businesses alike benefit from their commonsense approach to growing our tax base and reducing impediments to free enterprise.” said Colin Dalough, Director of Government Affairs and Business Development of the NACC.

State Representative Grant Wehrli has been selected to serve as a leading voice in the House Republican Caucus. Wehrli (R-Naperville) today was appointed Assistant House Republican Leader by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin.

“Grant has never hesitated to fight loudly and strongly for what he believes in and what is best for his constituents, even when that means taking on the majority party head on,” said Leader Durkin. “I congratulate him and am proud to have him serve as Assistant Minority Leader in the Illinois House of Representatives.”

Since his election to the House, Representative Wehrli has been a strong advocate for taxpayers and has worked to make elected officials more accountable to the families they serve. In the current 100th General Assembly, Representative Wehrli worked with colleagues in the House and Senate to adopt a state budget that curbs spending and funds priorities with no new taxes. He also led the fight against Democrat income tax increase proposals and filed several bills to help reduce families’ property tax burden. Representative Wehrli has passed a new law to stop costly public pension “double dipping”, and this spring filed measures to increase fines on elected officials who fail to file complete statements of economic interest or fail to comply with mandatory ethics and sexual harassment training.

“I’m honored by Leader Durkin’s confidence in my leadership abilities, but I am most pleased about the opportunity this provides to help advance issues important to families in my district,” said Representative Wehrli. “We’ve made some progress, but we still have a lot of work to do to improve our jobs climate and to get our state and our communities back on firm financial ground. I will continue to work on the fundamental reforms we need to succeed.”
